* Usually a publisher first offers the illustrator a manuscript
* Then the illustrator reads the script
* Create character roughs
* Create story board ( map of entire book showing the flow from page to page of image and text. Also shows the page break up of the text)
* Dummy of book (rough copy of the book 3D at actual size)
* Perhaps one or two highly developed roughs
* Produce finished illustrations for publication
