ITALIAN LADIES’ SOCIAL CLUB(From live interviews as part of the Parish Renewal Programme May 2001) The Italian Ladies’ Social Club was formed about 2 years ago by Fr Zerafa . About 60 ladies attended that first meeting, which was addressed by representatives from the St Vincent De Paul Family Centre on the Parade and by members of the Italian Community. The Club now meets on the first Friday of each month in the Church Hall, followed by the Anointing Mass in the Church. Currently about 20 ladies are regular attendees, and the club provides Italian coffee, and a chance to chat in Italian and to share problems and meet people with a similar background. Although many of the ladies are in their 80’s, they are also the mainstays of the Altar Society, help the Social Committee with some of their functions, and work at the Vinnies’ Family Centre Shop. A successful bus trip is usually organised one day each year. About 80 to 90 Italian ladies from the Parish also usually attend the annual Christmas Party organised by the Club. New members are very welcome. Enquiries Giuliana Frigo 8431 4865 |
