Don't forget to hit "Reload" or "Refresh" on your browser if you have visited this site recently and your browser caches files. Apologies for the site having been stagnant for a while, but it's been jammed up against the 5 MB limit on the file server. At great personal expense (!) I've managed to increase this limit, so expect the site to start growing again. 6 February 2008 Added a site map - now there's no excuse to miss things on the site. December 2007 FN are best known for their shaft drive fours, but before the four appeared they built a sturdy line of belt drive single cylinder motorcycles. November 2007 I usually run away from people when they ask me how my Bullock motorcycle is coming along - the honest answer is "not very well". At least I've updated the Bullock web page. August 2007 Ah, the trials and tribulations of rebuilding the water cooled Lewis engine. I've previously told the story of the evolution of the California motorcycle to become the Yale California. Here's a brief look at the evolution of the Yale-California into the Yale, in the period 1904 - 1910. July 2007 There has been lots of action this month, all relating to The Lewis Project - see the separate What's new at the Lewis Project page for details. The Lewis Project is a rather large undertaking - it almost doubles the size of the site! Vivian Lewis built cycles, cars and motorcycles in Adelaide, South Australia, and here we are attempting to give the reader an insight into the motoring part of the business. Enjoy! March 2007 This year I set out to spend my Christmas money on motorcycling books, and the four that I have added to my bookshelf have, despite their very different styles and themes, given me a lot of pleasure. Here is a short book review for each of the books, with an interesting aside on the early days of the Emblem motorcycle. I have started to update the pages about my bikes, starting with the Leon's Motorcycles page. I have also done some updates to the Rudge, De Luxe and Victor Blackburne pages, and added some further information about Blackburne engines and Blackburne-engined motorcycles. The Blue Bird is my most-ridden bike, so I have rewritten the Blue Bird page and added some extra material. I've also added a page on riding the Blue Bird in some more remote parts of the Australian countryside. I've long had an interest in Bradbury motorcycles, so from the materials I have collected I have put together A Bradbury pre-history to outline the goings on at the old firm in 1901 - 1905. Nuts, bolts and screws hold real surprises on early FN motorcycles: see Understanding FN threads before you start work on your bike. February 2007 I have revamped the links page and the photo links page, adding some new and deleting a few older ones.
