"CITY IN THE TREES' - MAKE A TREE HOUSE AND SLEEP IN IT

Poles and ropes to make four tree houses in the pine flat area are available. Leaders running this activity should hold the relevant qualifications in OHS&W and outdoor and pioneering skills. Please make enquiries with the Booking Secretary. An excellent small group activity suitable for girl guide and scout patrols.

ROPE BRIDGES AND LADDERS
(Leaflet available)

Numerous ropes, bags and lashing ropes are available for hire. Ask the Manager for the fact sheet on building a Commando (two strand) Bridge.

TOWERS AND GATEWAYS

Lashing ropes, poles, pegs and pulleys are available for hire.

ADVENTURE COURSE FOR CHILDREN

The Adventure Course follows the Blewitt Springs creekline and starts at the SW corner of Forrest Reserve. Supervison of young children is essential. Allow one hour and encourage young people to devise different ways of using the equipment. The course is not suitable for adults.


MAKING MUD BRICKS

A great activity for all ages. Mud is dug from the adjacent Tobichi Watehole; water, straw, spades and wheelbarrows are all supplied. Kids get VERY DIRTY so don't forget to arrange for a spare set of clothes.

FLY A KITE

This is a great activity at Douglas Scrub as there is plenty of open space. Bring your own kite as no equipment is available. There are many books, in libraries, on the subject and very little equipment is required.

OUTDOOR COOKING

A number of different stoves, grill tops and ovens are available at Douglas Scrub for your use, free of charge.

Check out the equipment next time you visit or phone beforehand to plan a gourmet weekend using a variety of cooking methods.

The 'pit' at the Pine Flat cookshed gives excellent coals for cooking with stock pots and camp ovens.



BUSH SURVIVAL

Douglas Scrub is an excellent venue to undertake bush survival courses. Contact your local Emergency Service to arrange for someone to assist you.

PLAN YOUR OWN FITNESS COURSE

No special fitness course is offered, however, Pine Flat is an excellent venue to set up your own including a .5km run along the fence track.

HORIZONTAL CLIMBING WALL

A new climbing wall has just been constructed. 20 metres long and 2.5 metres high it is suitable for all ages with graded climbs for the very young to adults. No instructor is required however supervision of children is essential. Further information from Douglas Scrub Manager or Guide House.


VOLUNTARY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Contact the Manager to arrange to undertake voluntary service on the property. This may include tree planting, weeding or painting. A service badge is available free of charge for anyone who gives three hours or more service to Douglas Scrub.

INITIATIVE ACTIVITIES

  • A flyer is available which gives an overview of the different activities available. You set up the activities yourself, we provide the equipment.
  • It is suggested leaders obtain this flyer prior to camp, plan which activites you would like to use then advise the Manager via the Equipment request form which is provided with your booking confirmation.

SPORTS

  • A volley ball set is available from the Manager. Poles and net are on Pine Flat. A portable set is available from the Manager and can be used adjacent to Douglas Scrub House.
  • Team games such as football can be played on the large three quarter sized oval area on Ken Maguire Reserve.

OWL'S DELL

On the south of Alec's Gate track. Access through the tree gateway.

ROCK CLIMBING and ROPES COURSE

The best location for rock climbing is at the north eastern end of the Onkaparinga Gorge. There are several rock climbing groups willing to assist at camps.

The company 'Rock Solid Adventure' can offer supervised rockclimbing and abseiling experiences in the Onkaparinga Gorge. Telephone 08) 8270 4244. Check out their web pages.

The company 'Outdoor Adventure Skills and Rock About' will visit Douglas Scrub and set up a portable climbing and abseiling wall as well as a low ropes course. Alternatively take your group to their facility just a 20 minute drive away near Kuitpo Forest where high and low rope courses are available as well as a climbing tower. Telephone 08) 8227 1855.
