The Newfoundland Club of
South Australia, Inc. (NCSA) is an affiliate club of the South
Australian Canine Association, Inc. The aim of the Club is to act in the
best interests of the Newfoundland breed. Club activities include:
Breed Promotion
The Club's activities in this area range from the provision of
information regarding the breed attendance at Animal Expo's and Vets &
Pets in the Park. An important function of the Club is that of a
resource for prospective puppy owners and new puppy owners through the
Club's Breed Information Booklet and Puppy Parenting Handbook. The Breed
Information Booklet may be obtained by forwarding a stamped (98 cent),
self addressed, A5 envelope to the Secretary, NCSA, 63 Bethesda Road.,
Lewiston, South Australia 5501. The Club does not give breeder
referrals. Contact the South Australian Canine Association (08) 8349
4797 for breeder referrals. A booklet on "Caring for the Older Newf" is
nearing completion. Helpful hints, contributions towards this
publication would be appreciated.
Confirmation Shows
The NCSA's inaugural Open Show was held in 1982 and Championship Show in
1983. Currently the Championship Show, if being held, is scheduled in
May and the Open Show in October.
Community
Service
The Club has a Pet Therapy Officer who coordinates visits to nursing
homes, day care centres and a spinal rehabilitation unit.
Social Activities
For several years the Club has held an annual Beach Day at Somerton
Beach and has been fortunate to have the use of the Somerton Surf
Lifesaving Club's facilities on the day. Events include the march past,
best Newf beach wear & headwear, Iron Dog competition, musical sit,
three legged race, egg & spoon race, obedience knockout & chocolate
pudding eating competition (followed by the longest drool!). A barbecue
lunch is available. Other social activities include periodic walks in
Kuitpo Forest.
Merchandise
The NCSA has had
a variety of Newf merchandise for many years and it is sent all over the
country. New items are constantly being added to the range so keep
checking this site! The sale of Newf merchandise has been a major
fundraiser and subsidises a range of Club activities including
welfare/research. All prices are in Australian dollars. Please email to
order and include your postcode for freight costs.

once again a photo and something about the character, likes & dislikes
